Ibuprofen for period cramps?

So I get really bad menstrual cramps. The pain is bad (I’m actually typing this right after I phoned into work, something I do every month because of the pain), I throw up, get all sweaty, shaky, and hot, and can’t settle. I’ve been experiencing this since I was 11 (I’m 26 now) and told my doctor about a week ago. He told me that if I take Ibuprofen for 3 days every 4 hours before my expected period it should help. Is it just me, or does that seem like a LOT of pills in someones system?
Three days, plus the days I have my period??
I have colitis, will the pills effect that in anyway?
I never thought of asking him this, just thought “yay a possible solution”, but now am iffy on taking pills for THREE days before my period actually shows up.

I was going to try this method for May’s cycle, but for the first time ever my period was 10 days late, so I couldn’t pin point the three days I should take the pills. Weird.

Anyone else try this method?
I tried having hot baths, but sometimes I throw up when I get out of the tub.
I’ve tried those heating pads that stick to your body, but they never seem to get hot enough for my liking.
I’ve tried birth control, I was on it for a year, and the cramps were still bad.
